About

Inspired by the artistry and spirituality of "Fukuro-mono" and "Tsutsumi-mono", which are classical terms for Japanese bags and wrapping cloth, we create small bags and fabric items using traditional Japanese handcrafting methods.

The world of Fukuro-mono and Tsutsumi-mono is the epitome of Japanese aesthetics - to embrace Nature, Artisanship and Spirituality.

Traditionally, they have been crafted and used not just for storing or wrapping objects but also for enfolding a sense of respect and gratitude along with objects.

We hope to create pieces that remind you to experience these senses often forgotten in our busy lives.

RINZU

"RINZU" is a Japanese word for figured satin. It is a textile in which a pattern is woven employing the reverse structure of a satin ground. It is used as the fabric for women's kimono and its accessories in general.
As RINZU is a single-coloured textile with a woven pattern, it is seemingly a plain textile. Yet, depending on how the light falls, the pattern - its true beauty - subtly appears.

Our wish is to create items with subtle beauty just like "Rinzu" textile that whispers to your heart.

Values 大切にしていること

  • 01

    Artisanship

Artisanship is the heart of RINZU. We work closely with artisans and artists in all regions throughout Japan and the world. In every piece, many areas of expertise come to life, including textile weaving, silk screen printing, metal works, braided cords, embroidery, gemstone jewellery, and Kintsugi works. Meticulous works and human energies have gone into each piece of Rinzu products.
  • 02

    Materials from Nature

We do not take materials for granted, as everything comes from nature.
The examples of what we use are vintage fabric and sleeping stocks of textiles held by weavers to make them into one-of-a-kind pieces with the Bricolage* spirit. We also use organic textiles and traditional crafts, such as Washi papers and Buddhist metal ornaments, created by a new generation of artisans passing on traditional craft techniques to the next generation.

Bricolage* A word used by French anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss, which means to create something new using materials and resources now available.
  • 03

    Co-creation by Nature and Artisans

We strive to ensure that each RINZU piece is co-created in good harmony by artisans and nature, carrying the artisan’s soul and nature’s power in itself.
